I've had my share of run-ins with game wardens, and some were definitely more nerve-wracking than others. Anyone else have a story that left you laughing or maybe a little scared?

My best game warden story was from when I had JUST barely avoided getting bitten by a huge cottonmouth (head back, mouth open, right between my toes), and backing slowly away from it, I very nearly tripped over the biggest alligator I'd ever seen, snoozing in the grass. This was in the Sabine Refuge, down near Hackberry.

After I collected my wits and headed back to my car, I encountered a friendly game warden on the path. He asked how I was doing, and, still kind of in shock, I told him I had just seen a HUGE 'gator. He said, "Was it by that pool to the left, right after the trail takes a sharp curve to the left?" I replied that yes, it was. He said, "Yep, that one was 14-1/2 feet last time we measured him. As far as we know, he's the biggest 'gator in the Refuge." So, it wasn't just extreme fear that made it look so big!

I rarely encountered a game-warden when I was in Alabama.
No license was needed to hunt on private land, and all they had to enforce was the 'bag limit', how many of whatever you were hunting you could shoot in a day...
Ok, count the doves in my bag, and be on your way. 😁
