Bedding or free-floating

I'm torn between bedding the action on my .30-06 or just going with a free-float barrel. Since it's got a wood stock, I'm kind of leaning towards bedding to keep everything nice and steady. Has anyone out there tried both methods and noticed any real difference in accuracy? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I actually faced this same struggle with my old .30-06 that has a walnut stock. I decided to go with bedding first, and I’m so happy I did. With wooden stocks, there’s always that worry about them swelling or shifting when the humidity and temperatures change. Bedding the action really helped lock everything in place. It gave me tighter groups and so much more consistency, especially on those longer range days when the weather was all over the place.

Bedding always helps. Check the barrel channel with a dollar bill. If the stock is touching the barrel, free-floating will help. Best $100+ you can spend on your rifle. That’s less than 3 boxes of bullets today!
