Curious about short barrels

Are short barrels being fine-tuned as they should be from the factory, or are manufacturers still sticking to the safer option of high gas pressure?

I believe that short barrels can be effectively tuned at the factory but a lot of brands still opt for the “overgas it and call it a day” strategy. It gets the job done but there’s certainly potential for better performance.
