Just a quick poll for everyone

As optics gain popularity among those who carry, I can’t help but wonder what your setup is. Are you using red dot on your EDC or do you still lean towards traditional iron sights?

I only use a red dot on my KSG shotgun. It is deadly on clay pigeons. :)
For others I prefer a 'more powerful than can be sold in the US' laser to put a bright dot where I want the bullet to go.
Iron sights for backup if the battery should fail. If you learned to shoot with them, they are deadly accurate.(y)

That’s a pretty cool setup! I can definitely see how a red dot on a KSG would make smashing clays a lot more enjoyable. Shotguns really respond well to a clean, quick reference point. Even the standard Class III options are more than capable for most realistic distances.

Also, I totally agree with you on iron sights. If someone puts in the effort to learn them early, they can be effective. I still use backup irons on all my carry setups, even the ones with dots, just for that extra peace of mind in case the electronics don’t cooperate.

It's shorter length and weight close to you makes it much quicker to get on target.
Not to mention fast cycle time and plenty of rounds. :)
My buddy took me to the "Sporting Clays" range, and after totally smoking the 'elite' shooters with their $3,000 Benelli shotguns, after I finished the course, they politely asked me not to return because the 'elites' were butthurt. :ROFLMAO:
I told 'em: "I thought you were supposed to shoot as many clays as you could?"

What I was shooting was definitely a Sporting Clays course.
Each station had clays that flew different. Even one that the machine threw the clay into a trampoline bouncing it straight up. Another one had them roll fast across the ground like a rabbit.
Many others ones that were great fun too.:D Definitely not skeet. Like they say, "golf with a shotgun".

Found a pic of a young friend I conned into getting a similar setup.
Notice how many empties on the ground (bottom eject), and how few clays left in the launcher. 😁:

Smoking every one of them is great fun! 😁
Edit: It hold 14+1 standard 2-3/4" shells!

You’ve got me wanting to take mine out and try a course like that just to see how it goes! It sounds like a great time!

It is.
Consider a clay launched across, from both sides, at the same time...
Which one do you shoot first?!
Just be sure to dress really nice and bring a shotgun that costs more than $1,500, because you will be in 'yuppie-land'. :ROFLMAO:
... Think, Country Club. 🤪
