I freed myself from the refrigerator scamming me for $120 per year.
(Long boring post alarm!)

The water filter in the refrigerator (and that timer) has always been a money making scam for the manufacturer to make money after the purchase of the refrigerator.
We have ALWAYS had a 2-filter water setup under the sink and filtered water available at the sink. So....
We NEVER used the water or ice on the front of the fridge!
Sure enough, after 6-months, the 'change filter' light comes on and blinks with the annoying 'ding-ding' every time you open the door.
They change the design of the filter every few years so it is always under patent, and you can ONLY buy the expensive replacement part from the manufacturer.
Here's the trick I discovered that they don't want you to know:
1. Only change your filter if the taste goes bad, or the water flow slows down.
2. If you don't need to change the filter and just need to reset the annoying alarm, simply do this:
3. Open the filter door, and the filter swings down... Leave it like this, with the fridge door open, for at least 20-seconds...
4. Swing the filter door back up and latch it.
5. Close the fridge, and you just bought yourself another 6-months of peace!
